Srinagar: The Legislative Council today witnessed pandemonium as Opposition National Conference and Congress created ruckus over the lynching remark of PDP minister Imran Ansari against NC’s Devender Rana in the Assembly.
When the proceedings of the House began, the Opposition members rose from their benches and asked the Chairman to explain what actions the government is taking against the minister. As the members of the ruling and Opposition parties started verbal fights against one other, creating ruckus.
But the Chairman of the Council Haji Inayat Ali regretted the remarks of the minister that calmed the Opposition and the proceedings of discussion began on the GST resolution.
However, the Chairman called the ruling party members to speak on the resolution which irked the Opposition and they staged Walk Out of the Upper House.
Led by Congress leader G N Monga, the Opposition members, despite several requests by the Incharge Secretary of the Council and ruling party members, refused to join the proceedings.
After the Walk Out, Monga told KNS that the Chairman did not allow the Opposition members to speak on the resolution.
“As per the tradition of the House, the members of the Opposition must speak on the debate. But the Chairman asked the ruling party members to speak first, which we questioned and as a protest staged walk out,” Monga said.
The Opposition members did not join the proceedings though several ruling PDP and BJP members spoke on the resolution of GST and lauded the GST regime for bringing uniformity to the tax system. (KNS)
