SSP Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain, while briefing the media persons, said that on 27/06/2017, Police Station Kupwara has received an information with regard to missing of 04 boys of village Gulgam. SSP has said that based on information, immediately a general alert was sounded across the district and two teams were constituted to trace the missing boys. The teams have started the searches in the forest areas uphill side of the village Gulgam adjoining to the LoC. At about 1800 hours one of the team has intercepted the four missing boys in a Nallah in dense forest close to LoC and they were shifted to Police Station Kupwara.

The missing boys have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Pir S/O Mohd Amin Pir age 14 years R/o Pir Mohalla Gulgam, Waheed Ahmad Gojree S/O Mohd Sultan gojree age 15 years R/o Deldjan gulgam, Zeeshan Ahmad Lone S/O Gh Rasool Lone age 15 years R/O Tangwari Gulgam and Ubaid Ahamd Gojree S/O Ab Razaq Gojree age 16 years R/O Tanwari Gulgam. SSP further said that during preliminary interrogation, the boys have revealed that they were intended to cross the LoC as they were fed-up with the lifestyle at their respective homes and also due to repeated scolding by their parents over different issues including studies. They further disclosed that they were in search of some jobs to change their lifestyle. SSP also added that the boys being of tender age have been handed over to their parents after proper counselling so as to give them a chance to rehabilitate with their families. SSP also said that the further enquiries are in progress so as to ascertain the role of any outsider who have motivated or lured these boys of tender age to fled from their homes.

The parents of the missing boys and common citizens have eulogized the role of Kupwara Police for timely tracing the missing boys before their crossing to other side of LoC. According to locals, swift action of the police has prevented the boys to cross the LoC which may have set a bad precedent in this frontier district where this trend has stopped over the years.(GNS)
