Srinagar:  A 20-year old girl has been hanged to death allegedly by her family in a Shehlah village of Handwara areaof Kupwara district last night, sources said Tuesday.
Local sources said a girl namely Ishrat Bano, daughter of Muhammad Asadullah Bhat, was hanged by her family members with the assistance of some outsiders during night hours inside the home. “The victim was reportedly having affair with someone which her family disapproved. Last night, she was hanged inside her house and secretly buried without any funeral,” the sources said, adding: “it clearly looks a case of honour killing.”
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Handwara when contacted by news GNS said: “We too received information about the incident. We also heard about the hanging of girl. A police team has been deputed to the village to ascertain the facts.” He assured that police will go into depth of the incident, adding that preliminary investigation has been launched.(GNS)
