Srinagar, June 01: Police Thursday said that two HM militants were killed in Sopore, while two other militants who lobbed a grenade were arrested.
A police spokesman in a statement to KNS said that on 31-05-2017 in the afternoon, unknown militants lobbed a grenade on Police deployment near Treasury office (TP Bank) Sopore resulting in injuries to 04 Police personnel, who were later shifted to Srinagar for treatment. Accordingly a case FIR number 143/2017 was registered in Police Station Sopore and investigation was taken up.
“During investigation it was learned from reliable sources that two new recruited HM militants namely Mehraj-Ud-Din Mir son of Khazir Mohammad Mir and Mohammad Rafiq Lone @ Rafi son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone, residents of Nathipora Sopore were involved in the grenade attack. The duo has also been identified from the CCTV footage. It was also learnt that these new recruits were motivated by HM Commander Aijaz Mir resident of Brath Sopore and Basharat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bomai Sopore (now killed) to join the militancy and intensify attacks on Police & Security forces.”
“Taking lead from the investigation, it was learned that two HM militants namely Aijaz Ahmad Mir resident of Brath Sopore & Basharat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bomai Sopore are hiding in the house of one Khazir Mohammad Mir resident of Mir-Mohalla Nathipora Sopore along with arms and ammunition. Accordingly the said house was cordoned off by joint parties of Sopore Police, 22-RR, CRPF 92, 177 & 179 Bn’s and North Range QRT at around 02:45 AM. During search operation the militants fired upon Police & Security forces and in retaliation both these militants got neutralized and following Arms & Ammunition viz AK-47 = 02 No’s, AK47- Magazines = 05 No’s & Pouch = 02 No’s were recovered from their possession and Case FIR No. 47/2017 U/S 307 RPC 7/27 A. Act registered in Police Station Bomai.”
“The slain militants had joined the HM outfit on 14-03-2016 & 30-06-2016 respectively. Both these slain militants were wanted in Case FIR No. 128/2016 U/S 307, 302 RPC, 07/27 A. Act of Police Station Dangiwacha. Aijaz Ahmad Mir R/O Brath was also earlier booked in a murder Case of Case FIR No. 95/2014 of Police Station Sopore. He was on bail, while Basharat had gone to Pakistan for training last year.”
“It is pertinent to mention that Sopore Police & Security forces have apprehended both the militants, who were involved in grenade attack on Police deployment on 31-05-2017 and neutralized their HM outfit motivators/ Commanders in less than 24 hours. Two pistols and four grenades have been recovered from the arrested militants.” (KNS)
