Srinagar: Four policemen were injured after militants hurled a grenade towards them in Sopore Town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir on Wednesday.
According to a police official, militants at 4:20pm lobbed the grenade at cops near police station Sopore which exploded with large bang. He said four policemen sustained splinter injuries due to grenade blast and were immediately removed to nearby hospital for treatment.
The injured policemen have been identified as Head Constable Noor Muhammad, Head Constable Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Constable Abdul Rehman and Constable Bilal Ahmad. All the injured are undergoing treatment and condition of two of them is stated to be critical.
Soon after the attack, a large contingent of government forces including SOG and Army rushed to the spot and launched manhunt to nab the attackers. No militant outfit so far has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, suspected militants last night shot at a PDP worker and his nephew in Baramulla after they were coming out of local mosque. Reports said militants fired upon Abdul Rashid Lone when he was coming out from a mosque after offering Taraweeh prayer in Khanpura area.
The reports added that the incident took place at 10:30 pm outside the Khanpura shrine. Along with Lone, his nephew too suffered injuries, and both were shifted to hospital. Lone had retired after serving the Jammu and Kashmir electricity department, the reports added.(GNS)
