Doda: Lashing out on the BJP government at Centre for its failure to tackle the situation in J&K state, former R&B Minister and General Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee said Abdul Majid Wani Sunday said that the political immaturity shown by the BJP leadership at center, during last three years has brought the J&K state at dangerous point of uncertainty, insecurity, death and fear, which have otherwise no place in a democratic set-up.
In a statement issued to KNS, he said there is total snap of communication between the people and the state authorities. Both the ruling coalition partners in J&K are, today, totally cut off from the people and the public living in whole Kashmir valley is being treated like people of some enemy country.
“The situation in J&K, during last three years, has totally changed from an era of development, peace and tranquility, witnessed by the people from year 2002 till 2014, when the landmark people friendly initiatives taken by politically experienced and matured leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad had put the state back on path of development, prosperity, reconciliation and trust”, Wani said.
He said a number of major infrastructural development projects were conceived and started during those twelve years. In fact, unprecedented developmental activities were started in the state with focus on building of roads, bridges, mini secretariat buildings at district level, new district hospital buildings, new medical colleges & cancer hospitals in hilly districts, tourism development authorities, inter-regional highways, opening and conceiving of strategically important Mughal road and Sinthan Top road, construction of new Assembly buildings at Srinagar and Jammu, construction of 4th Tawi Bridge, commissioning of Bagliar power project, opening of new schools, Anganwari centres and colleges, off-site university campuses and health infrastructure.
“A number of new districts and new administrative units up to Patwar level were created. People from remote and far flung areas had revenue administration at their doorsteps. Rehber-e-Talim teachers were regularized” he added.
Wani said that a special focus was given on conceiving and starting historical projects like zojila tunnel, Ramsetu bridge, Ganpat Bridge, Nashri & Banihal Tunnels, Sudh Mahadev Goha Dessa Capran road project, widening of Jammu Srinagar National Highway, Gandola projects at Patnitop & Bag-e-Bahu, restoration of The famous Mubarak Mandi palace, Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur & Nagri Parole, Tawi Lake project. Railway services were started in Kashmir valley and were further extended upto Banihal.
He said likewise a number of power projects were started by the central government in J&K when Congress Party was in power at the centre. People of remote and backward areas like Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Kupwara, Gurez were provided with all basic civic, health, educational facilities and a strong network of roads & bridges at their door steps. Even the remotest areas in these hilly districts were got connected under PMGSY, NABARD, state road plan, CRF, defence roads projects and projectisation.
Majid Wani further said that the present regime at centre is experimenting with the Kashmir valley and its people. Even there is silent unrest and sense of insecurity simmering among public of most of areas in Jammu province due to non performance and mis-governance of the administration.
Poor people have to run from post to pillar to get services, which were earlier brought under the public service guaranty act, like state subjects, ration, old aged & widows pension, adhar cards, revenue papers. City roads and lanes are full of garbage and people have to live under threat of spreading of communicable diseases.
“The ties with the neighbouring country have seen a lowest ebb and people living in borders areas have been left on their own to be victim of the increased border shelling. Apart from loss of lives & injuries caused to border residents, they have been subjected to huge losses of cattle, agriculture crop and their houses due to the continuous border shelling by Pakistan”, Wani said.
Majid Wani appealed the Prime Minister to adopt a people friendly and a soft approach in J&K and to take immediate measures for reconciliation and restoration of people’s trust on the administration.
“People’s aspirations should be given preference over a group of power hungry and corrupt politicians from the coalition partners in the state and an exercise should be immediately undertaken to start dialogue process with different forums of people like youth, educationists, media persons, horticulture & agriculture growers, tourist operators, boats men & hotel owners, chamber of commerce, opposition political parties’ leaders” Wani said.
The political maturity, if shown in this regard, shall definitely bring positive results and bring about the restoration of people’s trust and confidence back on the democratic set up of India and get people of the state out of slumber of unrest & a civil war like situation. (KNS)
