Ramban, Dec 09: Acting tough against Motor Vehicle Act violations, Traffic Police National Highway under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) NHW Rohit Baskotra here have registered five FIRs for overloading and endangering human lives.
Besides, four drivers have been arrested while 78 vehicles were seized and 2032 challaned in different Motor Vehicles Act Violations.
A police spokesman in a statement issued to INS, said that on 8-12-2023, Traffic Police team led by Inspector Novneet Verma DTI Ramban and Dysp Traffic Ramban Iftkhar Ahmed intercepted a bus bearing registration number JK02AW-3015 on Ramban Gool Road.
“On checking, the vehicle was found overloaded with 25 passengers in excess to its seating capacity. On this, the vehicle was seized and a case under FIR number 342/2023 under section 336 IPC 39/192 MV Act was registered at Police Station Ramban,” the statement said, adding that the driver of the vehicle identified as Surjit Singh, son of Thakur Dass was also arrested.
In another incident, traffic Police Ramban while checking at Seri intercepted on bus bearing registration number JK02BB-2527 while on way from Banihal to Jammu and found it overloaded with 18 passengers more than its seating capacity, police said.
On this, a case under FIR number 343/2023 under section 336 IPC 39/192 MV Act was registered at Police Station Ramban and vehicle was seized on the spot, whereas driver of the vehicle identified as Tanveer Ahmed, son of Mohd Shafi of Ramsoo was arrested.
Traffic Police team Udhampur led by Dysp Traffic Arun Jamwal seized one matador bearing registration number JK14G-2947 from Dhar Road with 34 passengers more than its seating capacity. On this, a case under FIR number 625/2023 under section 279/336 IPC was registered at Police station Udhampur and driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
Traffic Police team Udhampur led by SO Traffic Manwal ASI Tara Chand seized an overloaded minibus bearing registration number JK14-7619 while on way from Manwal to Udhampur. On this, a case under FIR number 622/2023 under section 279/336 IPC was registered at Police Post Round Domail.
Sharing the details, SSP Traffic NHW Rohit conveyed that traffic Police is working hard to ensure safety and security of the passengers and to curb traffic violations, heavy challaning is being done against the violators.
SSP further shared that in last one week, 2032 vehicles have been challenged for different Motor Vehicle Act violations whereas 78 vehicles which were unfit to ply on road were seized to ensure safety of the passengers.
SSP National Highway appealed that people should come forward and report all traffic violations on helpline numbers of Traffic Police to ensure their safety.
He also appealed the parents not to depute their school going children in private vehicles being used for commercial purpose as it jeopardize the security of children and is in contravention to Supreme Court (DC) guidelines.
