Srinaga: Chief Secretary B. V. R. Subrahmanyam has written a letter to Foreign Secretary, Harsh Vardhan Shringla (IFS), seeking the evacuation of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran due to covid-19 pandemic.
“The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has also received requests from its residents stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran for their early evacuation,” reads the letter.
“Their prolonged stay abroad during the COVID-19 Pandemic has made them restless and fearful of catching the disease in a foreign country,” it said.
“They are also desirous of celebrating Eid festival, which is, approaching on 25 May in Jammu and Kashmir,” the letter said.
“I would, therefore, request your personal intervention in prioritizing the evacuation of residents of Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran,” the letter said.
He said as part of the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’, students of Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Bangladesh are being evacuated to Srinagar. “This step has been greatly appreciated by the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
