Militant Killed, Soldier Injured In Pulwama Gunfight

Srinagar, April 27: One militant was killed and an army soldier was injured in gunfight at Mitrigam area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

A top police officer said that during initial exchange of firing, one army soldier received minor injury and was removed to a hospital where his condition is stated to stable.

“2-3 (militants) including foreign (militant) of JeM outfit trapped inside cordon.  Ops was halted for evacuation of civilians,” IGP said in a tweet, “01 soldier injured.  Precautions being taken to avoid collateral damage. Trapped (militants) will be neutralised at the earliest,” IGP Kashmir added. Later police announced that one unidentified militant has been killed.

Earlier a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation on a specific input.

As the joint team intensified searches towards the target spot, officials said, the hiding militants fired upon them, leading to an encounter. Presently there is lull at the spot even as cordoned remains intact, they added.
