CCTVs cameras with night vision to be placed around all police establishments: DGP

Srinagar: A new security system, involving placing of CCTV cameras with night vision facilities, is being established in and around all police establishments, Director General of Police S P Vaid announced on Tuesday.
Following a Fidayeen attack on district police lines Pulwama last month, he said, all the officers have been directed to review security, particularly the perimeter security of all police stations.
 Accompanied by IGP Kashmir Munir Ahmad Khan, the DGP visited Pulwama and Shopian, where he held police darbars, officers meetings and inspected some establishments. DIG South Kashmir S.P Pani and SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary briefed the DGP regarding the security and law and order situation and different measures taken by them.
He took a round of District Police Lines, under construction women Police Station inspected offices and also the family quarters, three of which were damaged in a suicide attack on August 26 this year. DGP directed the engineers to get the partially damaged quarters repaired immediately.
Later on, addressing a police darbar, DGP complemented the officers and personnel for tackling the situation during the last one year effectively and “neutralising top commanders of different (militants) outfits).”
He said that the fight of police against guns, grenades and drugs will continue and more efforts have to be put in this direction.
He directed the police officers and men to accelerate their action and book drug peddlers under Public Safety Act as has been desired by Chief Minister.
Referring to the welfare measures taken by PHQ and the government, he said that the ex-gratia relief has been increased from 27 lakhs to 43 lakhs and thousands of constables have been promoted as selection grade quota was increased from 25 percent to 50 percent.
Dr. Vaid advised the policemen to take all precautions while wearing BP Pathkas and BP Vests. He assured that good number of light BP vests are being procured for the safety of police personnel and will be distributed among them shortly.
Dr. Vaid gave on spot orders for sanction of 35 KV transformer to DPL Pulwama. He distributed relief and house hold items among the families affected by fidayeen attack. He said that the families have gone through a very troubled time and complemented them for facing the situation bravely.
He assured them that all possible help will be provided so that their residential quarters are ready within shortest possible time. He also listened to the grievances of the personnel and issued instructions to redress them.
Meanwhile, during his visit to district Shopian, Dr. Vaid chaired a high level meeting.
