Man dies while trying to save brother who fell unconscious inside manhole, had inhaled toxic gases

Ganderbal: A 38-year old man died in a tragic incident while trying to rescue his brother who had fainted inside a manhole in Umerhare area of Ganderbal district.

The deceased has been identified as Mohd Yousuf Halwai 38, son of Late Ghulam Ahmad Halwai Resident of Usman Abad, Umerhare.

According to locals Yousuf’s brother had entered in the 16-feet deep manhole to clean it but fell unconscious due to toxic gases inside.

Yousuf jumped to retrieve his brother but himself fell unconscious inside.

“Locals rushed to help and one man entered the manhole to retrieve the duo. One was retrieved with help of the rope. When the man entered again he too fell inside,” locals said.

After hectic efforts both all the persons were retrieved and evacuated to hospital where Yousuf succumbed.

Pall of gloom descended on the area when news of his death spread in the area.
