Srinagar: Police on Thursday foiled the protest march of National Conference (NC) and detained scores of its leaders after they tried to march towards Raj Bhavan here.
The protest march was called against the civilian killings and the price hike in the state.
Raising anti-government slogans, the NC workers, led by party General Secretary and MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar, were holding placards and banners.
The march started from party headquarters at Nawa-e-Subh complex and was heading towards Raj Bhawan.
Talking to reporters, Sagar said that the incumbent regime is targeting Srinagar as the curfew or restrictions are being imposed every day there. “The frequent restrictions or curfew in Srinagar areas has affected the businessman and other community in Srinagar. The government action is unjustified and the frequent restrictions must come to an end,” he said.
He said that the killings of policemen and the civilians is occurring every day and the government has failed to stop such incidents despite getting the support.
Sagar said that the price of every single commodity including the food stuff has been hiked by the government, which has resulted in the sufferings to the people belonging to poor sections.
Asked about the NIA raids and arrests, Sagar said that it is the job of government to speak over the matter but they have miserably failed to utter in anything in this regard. “Whether it is a good step or wrong step but the government should have spoken in this regard,” he said.
Meanwhile, as soon as the NC protesting leaders and workers tried to march towards Raj Bhavan, Police intercepted them near Ram Munshi Bagh police station and detained scores of its workers and leaders including NC Provincial youth president, Salman Sagar. (KNS)
