Icy roads bring travel woes as bitter cold sweeps Kashmir

Srinagar: Bitterly cold temperature have swept Kashmir as ice on roads, pavements and paths brought travel woes to people of Kashmir on Sunday.
With snow accumulations, roads have turned icy amid plunge in mercury, bringing troubles to people of the Valley.
A number of lanes in Srinagar remained inundated with snow as Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other government agencies failed to clear them.
The mercury remained below freezing temperature across the Valley with Gulmarg, the world famous skiing place, witnessed minimum of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius and hill resort of Pahalgam recorded a low minus 8.0 Degree Celsius.
According to a meteorological department official here, Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius.
Gazigund, the gateway town of Valley, recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 6.2 degree Celsius.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 6.8 degree Celsius last night, the official said.
