Kulgam:The disproportionate student-teacher ratio in government Middle Schools, Primary Schools ,High Schools and Higher Secondaries across Kulgam district depicts the callousness of the department in following its own guidelines.

The unbalanced posting of teachers has marred the career of students studying in government schools besides hampering the functioning of institutions.

While a disproportionately high number of teachers have been posted in a number of schools that have a small student population the other schools having a good number of students enrolled, are facing dearth of teachers.

Education authorities have suggested a teacher-student ratio of 1:25.

The higher Secondary School of Damhal Hanji pora Kulgam has 679 students enrolled but only 10 teachers are posted there for students.

“In Waltangu Higher Secondary 14 teachers for 182 students, in Gudipora School 10 teachers for 202 students and  in Sopat 6 teachers for 83 students,” sources in the education department said.

Sources said that in some schools have only 7 or 8 students with 4 or 5 teachers and in the far flung areas of Kulgam 2 or 3 teachers are posted for 200 hundred students, and in these far flung areas class rooms are also not clean for these students.

HSS DH Pora Kulgam there are more than 600 students with only 10 teachers how the students get quality education from these 10 students.

In that 10 teachers 1 teacher should be a principle of the school and rest 9 teachers teaches to students. In such situation it is impossible for teachers to pay full attention towards each and every student, even if they are willing to help, he added.

When we contact to Deputy CEO Kulgam Bashmir Ahmad said that ‘ in winter we will start rationalization in these schools’.

“When schools will open in March 2019 for new session, the teachers will be posted as per the enrollment of teachers,”  he added.
