By defeating Bulgarian opponent Georgie on one of the world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) platforms, Owais not only brought international recognition to himself but also showcased the growing potential of athletes from Jammu and Kashmir to compete and succeed at the highest level.

Sports observers said the victory sends a strong message that determination, discipline and consistent training can enable athletes from the region to overcome geographical and infrastructural challenges and excel on the global stage.

They noted that Owais’s success is likely to encourage more youngsters to pursue combat sports professionally, a field that has witnessed increasing interest in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few years. His achievement is expected to motivate aspiring athletes to believe that international success is attainable with hard work and perseverance.

“This is not just a personal victory for Owais. It is a victory for Jammu and Kashmir and for India. His success proves that talent from the region can compete with the world’s best,” several coaches and sports enthusiasts said.

The achievement has also renewed calls for greater investment in sports infrastructure, coaching facilities and financial support for athletes engaged in emerging disciplines such as mixed martial arts. Experts believe that sustained institutional backing can help produce more international-level athletes from the Union Territory.

Owais’s triumph has drawn widespread appreciation on social media, where many described him as a role model for the younger generation.
