Awantipora : Residents in historical town Awantipora on Thursday staged protest demonstration against Power Development Department for resorting to unscheduled power cuts in the area.
Besides protests, locals observed a complete shutdown, as business establishments and shops were closed against the long power cuts, which “gives tough time to residents”
Residents across the Awantipora sub-district have complained of unscheduled power cuts, which they said have increased considerably over the past few weeks.
They were protesting against PDD with slogans and said that power cuts irk the people especially to students, appearing in different examinations.
They said that the Power Development Department was not sticking to a proper curtailment schedule, and “despite requests to the officers the situation has not improved”
One of the protesters said that “PDD doesn’t follow any power curtailment schedule. They resort to power cuts as per their whims, which is the matter of grave concern,”
The residents demanded the intervention of higher ups to ensure better power supply in the area.
Earlier, Tral continously staged protests against Power development department with same grievances as that of Awantipora now.
