Srinagar: An Army man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.

Sepoy Bahadur Thappa Mager (19), a resident of Nepal, was on guard duty when he shot himself fatally from his service rifle inside a camp at Bari Brahmana area of the district on Monday, a police official said.

He said his colleagues rushed to the scene and found him dead.

The motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately, the police said, adding a case was registered in this regard.
