Police officer, team survive snow avalanche at Zojilla, walk 14 kms to safe zone

Ganderbal: Station House Officer Sonmarg and his team had a narrow escape after their vehicle was hit by a massive snow avalanche at Zojilla crossing. While the officer along with his team retrieved back from the area on foot  the vehicle is still stuck under snow.

SHO Sonmarg Manzoor Ahmad told INS that they were informed that two truck have got stuck on Srinagar-Leh road near zojila heights yesterda and need to be evacuated immediately.

“I along with my team and Beacon personnel reached the spot while it was snowing heavily,” Manzoor said.

He said that after hectic efforts to clear the mounting snow they managed to evacuate the trucks from the spot.

“As we begun to move back a massive snow avalanche hit us but luckily we escaped the wrath, the vehicle however got stuck,” he confided.

Even after hectic efforts they could not retrieve the vehicle and moved back on foot to the safe area.

“Whole team walked almost 14 kilometers towards Sonmarg. The vehicle is still under snow at Zojilla, we hope to retrieve that today,” he siad.
