Kupwara: Over five hundred patient are being treated at Jagerpora-Kawari after a viral infection brokeout in northern Kashmirs Kupwara on Friday.
The officials said that several teams of Health Department visited the affected area, and collected water samples and are treating patients in three mobile camps.
Reports said that two villages (Jagerpora and Kawari) are affected due to the outbreak of a infection from polluted water.
The villagers however allege that Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) are providing contaminated water to these two hamlets for years now.
The inhabitants of the areas have been advised to drink boiled water.
“The people should drink boiled water and take extra precautions to save themselves,” said Dr. Nazir Ahmad a doctor treating upon the affected patients said.
He also said that they have admitted the patients in this mobile camp and are continuously monitoring the situation.
“There is no need to panic, everything is under control,” Dr. Nazir added.
The affected residents said that they receive contaminated, unfiltered water from a reservoir located in the area due to which the disease broke out in the area.
“It is due the contaminated water which comes to our households through water supply.” said Farooq Ahmad a local resident.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kupwara Fareed Shaheen Chowdhary said that, more than five hundred people are being treated by health officials deployed in the effected village, “We also provide free medicine among the people. However the situation is under control,” BMO said.
“Mobile camps have been installed in the area to get control over the disease, special teams have been deputed to tackle the situation”, He added
