Hajin: Government forces on Monday fired teargas shells and few rounds in air to disperse a group of protesters who took to streets soon after a cordon-and-search operation was launched by a joint team of police, army and paramilitary CRPF at Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Sources said that gunshots were heard as the joint team of forces cordoned off Hajjin at wee hours of Monday.
Station house Officer Hajjin told INS that few gunshots were heard in the area and whole area was sealed by the joint team comprising Army’s 13 RR, CRPR’s 45 battalion and Police to nab the militants.
As the joint team was strengthening the cordon, sources said, youth took to streets and staged protests. They also resorted to pelting stone at forces, they said.
Forces resorted to teargas smoke shells, pellet and aerial firing to disperse the protesters near the cordon site.
When this report was filed, massive clashes between protesters and government forces were going in the area. There were no reports of injuries so far.
