Pulwama: Locals in Tral area of this south Kashmir have complained about the unhygienic toilets at the Bus Stand Tral.
The people said that unclean toilets behind sumo stand union at bus stand are irking them.
Locals told INS that the unhygienic condition of these toilets is posing threat to people’s health at downtown.
People said the much-hyped Swach Bharat Abhiyan launched by the government to ensure sanitation has failed to yield any result as open urination continues due to poor maintenance of these toilets.
“This is the mockery of the Swach Bharat Abhiyan,” they said. “Authorities have failed to implement the scheme in letter and spirit.”
“Authorities must look at the condition of toilets which is becoming cause of multiple diseases and source of infections,” a group of aggrieved drivers told INS.
A group of students passing nearby the stand also voiced resentment saying “these are toilets for public inconveniences not conveniences”.
“My parents have strictly warned me not to use these toilets even in an emergency,” one of the students said.
The locals demanded the toilets should be cleaned at the earliest.
When contacted, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Tral Mohammad Ismail Mir said the department is going to close these latrines soon and will start two new latrines/washrooms in the area that are already constructed.
“If land will be available, three more latrine-bathrooms will be constructed for the public conveniences soon,” the officer added.
