Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday termed the killing of 10-year-old minor in Shopian as “war crime” and asked New Delhi to start demilitarization of Kashmir on “war footing basis” to bring a halt to “bloodshed” in the Valley.
In a statement, the spokesman expressed deep shock over the killing of minor Musharraf Fayaz son of Fayaz Ahmad Najar of Shopian who died more than a week after sustaining injuries in an explosion in south Kashmir district.
“It is because of the huge deployment of forces everywhere in Kashmir that almost every day Valley witnesses killing of young boys. With his death the number of civilians killed in Shopian has mounted to five,” said the spokesman, adding, “Delhi is trying to kill and crush civilian population demanding fundamental and political rights. Such war crimes are being committed under a well-planned conspiracy.”
While paying tributes to ‘budding’ Musharraf, he said that the death of young boy has left entire population of Kashmir in shock and grief. To stop the further killings of Kashmiris, he said, it was need of the hour to not only roll back the draconian laws like AFSPA but “New Delhi must start demilitarization of Kashmir on war footing to stop further bloodshed.”
He said New Delhi must also start a process to give the birth right of Kashmir’s which is “right to self-determination.”
The spokesman also denounced the government decision of frequently caging amalgam’s chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his Nigeen residence every alternate day, terming it as a political vendetta.
He said barring Mirwaiz from carrying out his religious, social and political duties was a deliberate attempt to create a gap between the leader and the masses. He said such repressive measures can’t break the resolve of the leadership nor the people.
Meanwhile, the spokesman strongly condemned the frequent search operations in parts of South Kashmir “where in people including women and children are kept out of their homes in biting cold and vandalizing property worth lakhs”, terming it as ultimate highhandedness.
