Srinagar: Days after his controversial meeting with Government of India’s special representative Dineshwar Sharma, Muslim Conference has removed Professor Abdul Gani Bhat as its chairman.
Sources said the Muslim Conference, an ally of Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has appointed Mohammed Sultan Magray as the new chairman for next six months.
Professor Bhat, who was as the former chairman of Hurriyat Conference, has gone against the position taken by the Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising Mirwaiz, Syed Ali Geelani and JKLF chief Yasin Malik, to meet Sharma, the former chief of India’s intelligence agency, IB. The JRL has already rejected Sharma’s appointment as “a time buying tactic and a futile exercise.”
