J&K, Sep 19: On the final day of a Press Information Bureau (PIB)-organised media tour of Madhya Pradesh, a delegation of journalists from Jammu visited the 88 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant on the Omkareshwar Reservoir, gaining first-hand insight into the innovative renewable energy project and its operations.
During the visit, Station Head Jitendra Kumar Sahoo briefed the media delegation on the salient features of India’s first floating solar plant and its 88 MW generation capacity. He explained the functioning of the facility and highlighted various aspects of generating solar power through floating photovoltaic technology installed on the reservoir.
Sahoo informed that the Floating Solar Plant holds immense strategic significance in India’s renewable energy landscape. “By utilizing the vast surface area of the reservoir, the landmark project eliminates the need for large-scale land acquisition, preserving valuable terrain for agriculture and local development while substantially offsetting carbon dioxide emissions,” he added.
The journalists also visited the control room, where they were apprised of the monitoring and operational systems associated with the plant. The briefing provided the delegation an opportunity to understand the processes involved in monitoring power generation and managing the plant’s operations.
Following the briefing and tour of the control room, the delegation visited the power plant site. The journalists interacted with engineers and technical personnel working at the facility, who explained various aspects of the floating solar installation, including the floating photovoltaic panels, power generation systems and other technical components.
The interaction with the engineers gave the journalists a closer understanding of the engineering, technical and operational aspects of the 88 MW floating solar project, as well as the use of the Omkareshwar Reservoir for renewable energy generation.
Later, the delegation visited the revered Omkareshwar Temple, where the journalists paid obeisance and sought blessings. The temple visit provided the delegation an opportunity to experience the religious and cultural significance of Omkareshwar.
The visit to the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant and the Omkareshwar Temple marked the culmination of the media delegation’s tour of Madhya Pradesh. The visit was part of the media tour aimed at providing journalists an opportunity to witness major development and infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh.
