Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership on Monday said that “ill-treatment” out to the political prisoners in Tihar, Kathua, Udhampur Kote Balwal and other jails was an “eye opener” for international human rights organizations.
In a statement issued here, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik that they will soon send a delegation to State Human Rights Commission so that to bring the ‘maltreatment’ meted out to the prisoners.
A JRL statement also stated that a delegation led by JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik visited ICRC office at Gogjibagh here and conversed on telephone with ICRC’s deputy head of delegation Adebayo, stations in New Delhi, and requested him to send a delegation to visit and see the prevailing ill-treatment meted out to the political prisoners from Jammu and Kashmir who are languishing in Kathua and Tihar jail. Malik also requested him to take ‘strong note’ of unwanted arrest and prolonging their unnecessary incarceration and “instead release them.”
Malik also informed him that no visit has been undertaken by the ICRC to any visit to jail in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Mr Adebayo assured him that ICRC would soon carry a visit to jails and also assured that every possible effort would be undertaken for the betterment of the jail inmates.”
