ACB said that the accused has been identified as Gazala Akhter, Junior Building Inspector, SMC Ward No. 28, Srinagar.

According to ACB, it received a written complaint wherein the complainant alleged that despite having obtained requisite building permission for construction of two structures, the accused was deliberately obstructing the construction work and adopting delaying tactics to harass him.

The complainant alleged that the official was putting pressure on him to pay illegal gratification to allow completion of work within the stipulated period.

Acting on the complaint, ACB conducted a discreet verification which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.

During investigation, a trap team was constituted which laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses and she was taken into custody, ACB said.

Further investigation in the case is going on, reads the statement.
