Former Army Chief Gen V.N. Sharma passes away; Indian Army mourns loss

New Delhi, July 31: The Indian Army on Friday expressed profound grief over the demise of former Chief of the Army Staff General Vishwa Nath Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, describing him as a distinguished soldier and visionary military leader whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of soldiers.

In a condolence message, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth and all ranks of the Indian Army extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones of the former Army Chief.

General Sharma, who dedicated his life to the service of the nation, was remembered for his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment and distinguished military career.

The Army also highlighted that General Sharma was the younger brother of Major Som Nath Sharma, PVC, Independent India’s first Param Vir Chakra awardee, and said he carried forward his family’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and selfless service with distinction.

Paying tribute to the late Army Chief, the Indian Army said his enduring legacy of honour, duty and military excellence would continue to inspire future generations.
