Srinagar, July 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of the situation arising from widespread heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides across Jammu and Kashmir, directing the administration to immediately assess losses to residential properties and public infrastructure to ensure swift relief and rehabilitation.
The Lieutenant Governor said he held detailed discussions with senior government officials to evaluate the impact of the recent spell of adverse weather and review the ongoing rescue, relief and restoration operations across the Union Territory.
Expressing profound grief over the loss of two lives in Doda district, Manoj Sinha conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the administration stands firmly with those affected during this difficult time.
“I spoke to senior officials today to review the impact of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides. I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two lives in Doda, and my thoughts and prayers are with their families,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He said all emergency response agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army, have been mobilised and remain on maximum alert to respond promptly to any emergency in vulnerable areas.
The Lieutenant Governor further informed that significant progress has been made in restoration efforts, with key roads in Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and Udhampur reopened for traffic, while work to restore drinking water supply and other essential public services is continuing in the affected regions.
Directing officials to expedite relief measures, Manoj Sinha instructed field teams to immediately conduct a detailed assessment of damage caused to residential houses and public infrastructure, ensuring that compensation, restoration and rehabilitation works are initiated without delay.
The administration, he said, is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and remains committed to safeguarding lives, restoring normalcy and providing all necessary assistance to affected residents across Jammu and Kashmir.
