Srinagar, June 12: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi chaired a security review meeting at PCR Kashmir on Friday to assess preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), Muharram observances, and Mela Kheer Bhawani.
Senior officers from J&K Police, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, SSB, Intelligence agencies, Traffic, Railways, Telecom, and other departments attended the meeting. Participants briefed on deployment plans, route security, intelligence coordination, traffic regulation, communication preparedness, emergency response, and logistical arrangements for the events.
Reviewing the arrangements for SANJY-2026, Birdi directed officers to strictly follow SOPs and take preventive measures. He stressed maintaining high alertness at vulnerable locations and along pilgrimage routes, and reviewed contingency planning, disaster response, crowd management, and coordination protocols.
For Muharram, the IGP emphasized ensuring peaceful conduct of processions and gatherings across the Valley. He directed comprehensive security and traffic arrangements along procession routes, effective crowd management, and close liaison with organizers and community representatives.
On Mela Kheer Bhawani, Birdi called for robust security and facilitation measures for devotees. He highlighted the need for sanitization of the shrine premises, adequate security deployment, and proper traffic management to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience.
Concluding the meeting, the IGP expressed confidence in the collective preparedness of all agencies and reiterated the security establishment’s commitment to ensuring peaceful and successful conduct of the upcoming events.
