The meeting focused on ongoing and future railway projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and accelerating economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The statement said the decision to introduce a stoppage at Anantnag will benefit commuters, tourists and traders by providing improved access to one of Kashmir’s key economic and cultural centres.

During the meeting, Omar Abdullah appreciated the initiatives of Indian Railways in J&K and said the Vande Bharat service has transformed travel between Jammu and Srinagar by reducing travel time and offering enhanced comfort.

He also highlighted the role of the railway network in facilitating the movement of freight, including apples, cherries and cement, thereby helping local farmers and businesses access wider markets.

The Railway Minister, as per the statement, reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and said the Anantnag stoppage reflects the government’s efforts to address local aspirations through improved infrastructure and connectivity.
