New Delhi, June 2: The All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) has expressed gratitude to the Delhi Government for granting a one-time amnesty to Kashmiri migrants and addressing income and property-related anomalies that had led to the suspension of cash assistance for nearly two years.

In a statement, AIKS said the decision would benefit 1,832 Kashmiri migrant families registered with the Delhi Government. The organisation noted that the government has removed the income-related eligibility condition for relief that had been introduced by the previous government, enabling affected families to receive financial assistance.

AIKS president Ravinder Pandita welcomed the move and said the community had been seeking resolution of the issue for a long time. He also urged the government to enhance the Assistance to Migrant Relief (AMR), pointing out that the amount was last revised nearly a decade ago.

Pandita recalled that a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits, including representatives of AIKS, had met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood in July last year and raised concerns regarding the discontinuation of cash assistance and related eligibility issues.
