Jammu, May 30: Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have assured uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel and LPG across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh amid a sharp surge in fuel demand driven by increased tourist inflow, seasonal agricultural activities and the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festivities.
According to official figures, PSU OMCs — including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited — recorded a 24 per cent increase in petrol sales and a 12 per cent rise in diesel sales in Jammu and Kashmir during the period from May 1 to May 28, 2026, compared to the corresponding period last year.
During the period, total petrol sales stood at 51,820 kilolitres, while diesel sales reached 78,928 kilolitres.
Officials said the heightened demand has been fuelled by seasonal agricultural operations, increased movement of tourists and festive-related travel. Additional pressure on fuel outlets has also emerged due to a noticeable shift of institutional and commercial consumers towards retail fuel stations.
Despite the increased off-take, OMCs said adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available and that logistics and distribution networks are being closely monitored to ensure seamless supplies across the region.
Head of IOC for J&K and Ladakh, Himanshu Sharma, said there was no shortage of petrol or diesel anywhere in the region.
“There is no paucity of petrol and diesel. Fuel sales have increased significantly due to the massive rush of visitors across the region,” Sharma said.
He urged the public not to panic, assuring that sufficient stocks of all fuel products were available.
“The availability of fuel products is fully ensured. There is no need for panic buying,” he said, adding that people should avoid excessive and unnecessary consumption of petroleum products.
The OMCs also advised consumers to maintain normal purchasing behaviour and rely only on official communications for information regarding fuel availability. Officials reiterated that all necessary measures are in place to meet the enhanced demand and maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies.
