Srinagar, Apr 21: Morning walkers and fitness enthusiasts along the scenic stretch from Nehru Park to Foreshore Road are grappling with a persistent lack of basic sanitation facilities, raising concerns about public convenience and hygiene.

The route, popular among residents for morning walks, jogging, and cycling, witnesses a significant footfall daily. However, the absence of proper public toilets has become a major inconvenience, particularly for the elderly, women and children who frequent the area for exercise and recreation.

Locals said that despite the route’s growing popularity and its importance as a health corridor, authorities have failed to provide adequate restroom facilities. Many walkers are left with no option but to cut short their routines or face discomfort during their time outdoors.

“People come here early in the morning for a healthy start, but the lack of toilets turns it into a stressful experience,” a visitor told INS, adding that the issue has persisted for a long time without any visible action.

Residents have urged the administration to take immediate steps to install and maintain public toilets along the stretch. They stressed that ensuring such basic amenities is essential not only for convenience but also for maintaining cleanliness and promoting public health.

With increasing emphasis on fitness and outdoor activities, locals believe that addressing this issue will go a long way in making the route more accessible and user-friendly for everyone.

Pertinently, the government has said that at least 10 washrooms constructed under the Srinagar Smart City Mission in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir are lying non-functional, awaiting electricity connection.
