Speaking to reporters in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Abdullah said the move to bring private universities into the Union Territory aims to benefit students by reducing the need to travel outside for higher education.

He said the government will reach out to institutions across different states and encourage them to set up campuses in Kashmir, Jammu, and even rural areas, making higher education more accessible and cost-effective for local students.

The initiative, he said, would help save both time and expenses for students who currently migrate outside the region for academic opportunities.

Addressing the Ramban incident, the Chief Minister criticized cow vigilantism, referring to reports that a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying cattle was chased by miscreants, leading to an assault on the driver who subsequently jumped into a stream and remains untraced.

“Who allowed these people to stop those transporting cattle? We will not allow jungle raj here,” he said, questioning the actions of individuals involved in such incidents.

He further said there is no prohibition on transporting cattle and asked who had authorized such interventions by private individuals.
