Jammu, Apr 11: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched a 100-day “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir” campaign, announcing strict action against drug smugglers, including cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards and attachment of their properties.

Addressing a gathering at MA Stadium Jammu, the LG said that those ruining the future of youth will face stern action, asserting that the fight against drug abuse requires collective efforts as the menace has spread across villages, districts and all sections of society.

He said the administration has put in place a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to dismantle the drug network both financially and legally, adding that documents such as passports, Aadhaar cards and driving licences of smugglers will be cancelled, while their movable and immovable properties will be attached and bank accounts frozen.

The LG further said that major drug peddlers will be identified at the police station level to ensure accountability and create deterrence.

Highlighting the larger security concern, he said drug trafficking is being used to fund terrorism and weaken society, adding that every consignment reaching here poses a serious threat to the future of the youth.

Calling for mass participation, the LG urged people to organise pad yatras and awareness drives across Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the campaign cannot succeed without the involvement of society, youth and community leaders.

He also underlined the role of women in curbing drug abuse, stating that awareness among mothers and sisters can play a crucial role in protecting families and communities.

The LG said the next 100 days are vital, with focus on awareness campaigns, counselling in educational institutions, community outreach and targeted interventions for vulnerable groups.

He added that the government has notified new rules for treatment, counselling and rehabilitation centres to ensure proper functioning, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.

Reaffirming a balanced approach, the LG said that while strict action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking, full support will be extended to those battling addiction for their treatment and rehabilitation. (KNC)
