According to officials, a distress call was received at 3:32 AM at the State Fire Control room Batamaloo following which fire tenders from Headquarters, SH Pora Maharaj Gunj, and Babdemb were immediately dispatched to the spot.

Upon arrival, it was found that 3-4 residential houses, closely annexed to each other, were engulfed in flames. Firefighting operations were launched without delay;

However, the blaze intensified due to multiple gas cylinder explosions, leading to further spread of the fire.

The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of ADGP Fire & Emergency Services, Alok Kumar (IPS), while several senior officers remained present on the ground to monitor and manage the situation.

After strenuous efforts, the fire was brought under control.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and is currently under investigation, officials said.
