Sources said the cabinet is expected to consider and possibly clear a new Excise Policy aimed at streamlining revenue generation and regulating the sector more effectively. The policy is being seen as a key financial reform measure of the government.

The cabinet is also likely to approve a memorandum of understanding for execution of crucial works along the Shri Amarnath Yatra track. The proposed works are aimed at improving infrastructure and safety arrangements on the pilgrimage routes ahead of the annual yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees every year.

In addition, proposals related to the promotion of Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service officers are expected to be placed before the cabinet. Sources indicated that certain batches of JKAS officers may also be granted relaxation as part of the promotion exercise, addressing long pending service related issues.

The meeting assumes significance as it comes amid heightened administrative activity and ahead of major policy rollouts planned by the government. Officials said decisions taken in the cabinet meeting would have a direct bearing on governance, revenue management and preparedness for major religious events in the Union Territory.

Further details are expected to emerge after the conclusion of the cabinet meeting. (KNT)
