Srinagar, Jan 01: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that maintaining good relations with neighbours and living in brotherhood is key to overcoming the challenges ahead. He also cautioned that those targeting Kashmiri shawl dealers across India are trying to bring back Hitler’s ideology.

Speaking with reporters in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah said there will be many shortcomings and many successes, but they will keep moving forward. He said that “our relationship with our neighbours should be good”.

He also expressed satisfaction over India’s gesture of sending the External Affairs Minister to Bangladesh to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. “It is good. Bangladesh is our old friend and we have to strengthen our friendship,” he said.

Condemning the recent attacks on Kashmiri shawl traders in different parts of the country, he said such incidents reflect a dangerous mindset inspired by Hitler’s ideology.

“There are some people whose aim is something else. They are following Hitler’s path and want Hitler’s regime to start here. But Hitler disappeared-he shot himself. God willing, Nazism ended there, and the time will come when it will end here too,” he said.

On the recent reports about the Constitution being translated into Kashmiri for the first time, he said it has already been translated many years ago. (KNO)
