Two terror aides held in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Jan 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested two terror associates and recovered arms, ammunition and cash amounting to ₹8.40 lakh during a late-evening operation in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A senior police officer said that the recovery was made by Police Station Ganderbal in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Gundrehman Bridge during a naka checking operation.

He said acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police party intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK15B-7309. “During a thorough search of the vehicle, arms, ammunition and a huge quantity of cash were recovered,” the officer said.

The recovered items include one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, four pistol rounds, two hand grenades and cash amounting to ₹8,40,500, he added.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir, son of Mohammad Subhan Mir, resident of Hajin, District Bandipora, and Shabnum Nazir, daughter of Nazir Ahmad Ganie, resident of Shalabugh, District Ganderbal.

The officer further said that a case under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the arms, ammunition and cash, as well as their possible terror linkages.

Ganderbal Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the district and appealed to the public to cooperate and share any information related to anti-national or criminal activities. (KNC)
