Rapist father gets life imprisonment in Anantnag

Anantnag, October 24: In a heinous case that shook the conscience of society, the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge Anantnag has awarded life imprisonment to a man convicted for the rape of his minor daughter.

The case was registered at Women Police Station Anantnag under FIR No. 03/2022 U/S 376, 506 IPC, 3/4 of POCSO Act on 25-01-2022, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother. After thorough investigation, a chargesheet was produced before the Court on 11-03-2022 against the accused Mohd Latief Sheikh S/O Ab. Rehman Sheikh R/O Tailwani Achabal, an official told the INS.

The investigation was professionally conducted by ASI Tahira (PID No. 936131) the then SHO Women Police Station Anantnag, supervised by Dysp Ashiq Hussain the then Dysp Hdqrs Ananthnag whose diligent efforts ensured that substantial evidence was collected and properly presented before the Court.

The case was effectively pursued during trial by Public Prosecutor Abdul Rashid, whose strong arguments and commitment played a key role in securing the conviction.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amritpal Singh highly appreciated the exemplary work of both the Investigating Officer and the Public Prosecutor in ensuring justice for the victim and reaffirms its commitment to safeguard the dignity, safety and rights of women and children across the district.
