4 tractors seized, FIRs registered in Shopian

Shopian, Oct 16: In a continued crackdown on illegal mining activities, Shopian Police have seized four tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from the Reshnagri and Berthipora areas of the district.

Acting on specific inputs, Police Post Reshnagri seized three tractors operating without valid royalty documents.

In this regard, a case under FIR number 49/2025 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant provisions of law and a formal investigation is underway.

Similarly, one tractor was seized by Police Post Berthipora, also found transporting minerals without proper documentation. Consequently, FIR No. 43/2025 has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining and remains committed to safeguarding the district’s natural resources.

Citizens are encouraged to report any illegal mining activities in their areas. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and strict legal action will be taken against violators.
