The breakthrough came after investigators used CCTV surveillance and other modern techniques to trace the culprit.

An official said that the Police Post Reshipora received a complaint from Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar, resident of Wadpora Dogripora, alleging that unknown thieves had broken into his house and stolen gold ornaments and cash. Based on his complaint, police registered FIR No. 200/2025 at Police Station Awantipora under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation.

A special team was constituted under the supervision of SHO Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Ahmad and Incharge Police Post Reshipora Inspector Bilal Ahmad. The team examined CCTV footage from multiple locations and pursued technical leads which eventually pointed to the involvement of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, resident of Frestabal Pampore.

The accused was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Police said the stolen items, including gold ornaments and cash valued at Rs 1,30,000, were recovered from his possession. Officials confirmed that the recovered property has been secured as part of the case proceedings.

“The arrest was made swiftly thanks to coordinated teamwork and the use of modern investigation techniques. The recovery of the stolen property has brought relief to the victim’s family,” an official said.

Police added that further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was acting alone or had accomplices.
