Season’s first snowfall in J&K higher reaches likely on Oct 5 to 7

Srinagar, Oct 01: The local Meteorological department here has predicted the season’s first snowfall over the higher reaches of north, central, and south Kashmir, as well as in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal, on October 5 and 6.

Director of the Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmad, said generally dry weather is expected till the evening of October 4, with the possibility of light rain, thunder, and gusty winds towards late evening or night.

He added that from October 5 to 7, generally cloudy weather is expected, with the possibility of intermittent spells of light to moderate rain, thunder, and gusty winds, and light snow over higher reaches is also expected at many places in J&K.

There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places of Jammu Division including Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua & Udhampur and moderate to heavy rain over isolated places of South Kashmir during 6th Oct & heavy rain over isolated places of J&K on 7th Oct.

From October 8 to 10, generally dry weather is expected across the region, he said.

In its advisory, the Met Department has advised farmers to continue harvesting paddy and other horticultural crops, including safe storage and other farm operations, until the afternoon of October 4.

The MeT Director further said that a significant decrease in day temperature is expected during October 5 and 6.

The advisory reads that season’s first Snowfall (light to moderate) over higher reaches of North, Central & South Kashmir & higher reaches of Chenab Valley & Pir Panjal range is expected during 5th to 7th Oct.

The travelers, transporters, tourists and trekkers have been advised to plan accordingly.
