Srinagar, Aug 2: Authorities on Friday issued a detailed traffic advisory for commuters across Jammu and Kashmir as rainfall and landslides continue to affect road connectivity. While the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has launched clearance work in the Pir Panjal region, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains closed due to major damages at several locations.

Officials said that traffic is moving on the Mughal Road and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road as per the advisory, while the Sinthan Road is open only for light motor vehicles (LMVs) under the supervision of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, however, is still blocked at multiple stretches between Jakheni and Chenani where the road surface has suffered extensive damage. Restoration work is underway but authorities have strictly advised people not to undertake journeys on this route until it is fully traffic-worthy.

Commuters have been urged to strictly follow lane discipline on open routes as overtaking is causing congestion in several stretches. Officials also cautioned people not to pay heed to rumours regarding the reopening of the highway and to rely only on official updates.

Travelers have been asked to regularly check the official Twitter handle and Facebook page of J&K Traffic Police for real-time status of roads before planning their movement. (KNT)
