Srinagar, May 5: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resumed office at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on Monday, marking the traditional biannual Darbar Move after a six-month gap.

The reopening of the Civil Secretariat in the summer capital signals the administration’s shift to Kashmir for the warmer months.

Abdullah in a post on X, emphasized that his government’s priority over the next six months would be “action, accountability, and ensuring that every individual benefits from good governance and development.”

He urged officers to adopt a results-driven approach and said the government would redouble efforts to address public grievances and push forward developmental initiatives across the Valley.

“Let’s make these six months count,” the chief minister stated in a brief underscoring his intention to fast-track projects and improve service delivery.

The Darbar Move, a century-old tradition started by the Dogra rulers, involves shifting the seat of governance between Jammu and Srinagar to escape the extreme weather of either region. The practice, while often criticized for its logistical costs, is seen as a symbol of unity between the two regions.
