Srinagar Jammu highway has been kept closed for vehicular movement as official said that multiple avalanches have hit the stretch at Banihal and landslides have occured in Ramsoo and Ramban.

Meanwhile the Jawahar Tunnel was hit by a massive snow avalanche on Thursday evening burying ten people under it.

The rescue operation was initially hampered as officials were finding it difficult to reach the spot as weather conditions deteriorated, and the avalanche had closed one side of the tunnel completely.

Reports said that the rescue operation has been intensified to trace out the missing people that include six policemen, two fire service personnel and two prisoners.
