Srinagar, April 17: Police on Thursday conducted an inspection of sim vendors to curb sim misuse in Handwara.

Police in a statement said that in a decisive move to curb the misuse of SIM cards and bolster public safety, Police in Handwara carried out a comprehensive inspection of SIM card vendors.

The initiative was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with existing guidelines for SIM card sales and activations.

Police spokesperson said that during the inspection, police teams focused on verifying adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, proper documentation, and measures to prevent the unauthorized issuance of SIM cards. Vendors were closely monitored to ensure their operations met all legal and regulatory requirements.

Emphasizing the crucial role of SIM vendors in safeguarding communication networks, Handwara Police urged them to strictly follow KYC procedures. Authorities warned that any violations would lead to strict legal action, including penalties, license cancellations, and possible prosecution, he said.

Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or irregularities related to SIM card sales and usage.
