Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025 on Friday night, Shah said that the assembly elections were conducted peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir, and the promise of statehood will also be fulfilled.

“We have assured that statehood will be restored. From the beginning, we have maintained this stand. However, it is not possible to announce when it will happen on a public platform,” he stated when questioned about a timeframe for the restoration.

“This was the first election in Kashmir in 40 years without re-polling at any location. No tear gas or bullets were used, and 60% voter turnout was recorded—this is a significant transformation,” he added.

It is important to note that Following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories, Home Minister Amit Shah had assured Parliament that statehood would be reinstated at an appropriate time.
