Kashmir parts receive fresh snowfall, Gurez among other roads closed

Srinagar, Jan 16: The parts of South and north Kashmir on Thursday morning received fresh snowfall.

Reports received by the INS said that Achabal, Qazigund, Gurez and other adjacent areas have experienced fresh snowfall.

The reports of snowfall were also received from Kishtwar.

Pertinently, the night temperature improved in Kashmir parts.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -2.5°C, while Qazigund dropped to -3.8°C. Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, recorded -4.2°C, and Gulmarg registered a bone-chilling -7.0°C. Sonamarg remained one of the coldest places at -7.7°C.

Kupwara, Kokernag, Bandipora, and Ganderbal recorded minimums of -1.9°C, -2.2°C, -2.0°C, and -2.3°C, respectively. Baramulla saw a low of -1.7°C, while Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam, and Khudwani recorded -3.1°C, -3.7°C, -4.0°C, and -4.2°C, official said.

Meanwhile, the snowfall in Gurez has led to the suspension of movement on the Gurez-Bandipora road, officials said.

An official said that the authorities decided to close the Gurez-Bandipora road to ensure the safety of travelers.

Moreover, the Anantnag-Sinthan-Kishtwar road (NH244) via Sinthan Pass has been closed for traffic due to ongoing snowfall and adverse weather predictions, officials said.
