Kulgam, Aug 06: To eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Kulgam Police on Tuesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A police party headed by IC PP Mirbazar during patrolling at village Nipora intercepted one vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-5292 for checking, a police spokesman said.

During the search, the officers were able to recover 7.3 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance filled in the nylon bag. The two persons identified as Shafat Ahmad Khanday son of Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday resident of Damjan and Jora Singh son of Darshan Singh resident of Dholan Ludhiana, Punjab on board have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Also vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized.

Accordingly, police said that a case vide FIR number 202/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund & investigation has been initiated.
